The implementation of the Three-Term School Calendar for SY 2026–2027 introduces new adjustments in classroom instruction, assessment, and learner monitoring. As part of the opening activities for the school year, schools are encouraged to conduct a Diagnostic / Pre-Test for Key Stage 2 learners (Grades 4–6) across all subject areas.
This assessment helps teachers identify learners’ strengths, learning gaps, and readiness levels before formal instruction begins.
What is a Diagnostic / Pre-Test?
A diagnostic test or pre-test is an assessment administered before the start of lessons. Its primary purpose is to determine learners’ prior knowledge and current competency levels.
For Key Stage 2 learners, the assessment provides teachers with valuable information that can guide:
- Lesson planning
- Instructional strategies
- Intervention programs
- Remediation activities
- Differentiated learning approaches
Because of this, diagnostic assessments play an important role in improving learner performance throughout the school year.
