The DepEd ARAL Key Stage 3 Reading Program strengthens learners’ transition from basic reading to independent reading, fluency, and deeper comprehension.
Using the Reading – Basic Teacher’s Guide, students engage in lessons that focus on advanced phonics, word decoding, sentence construction, and understanding short texts. They also learn to manipulate sounds, recognize sight words, and apply grammar in forming meaningful sentences.
Interactive activities such as sound games, word-building exercises, and guided reading tasks are used to improve engagement and retention.
Key Stage 3 emphasizes:
- Reading fluency and accuracy
- Word formation and phonological awareness
- Use of sight words and basic grammar
- Comprehension and critical thinking skills
This stage helps learners progress from basic literacy to functional reading skills, enabling them to understand, interpret, and apply what they read in real-life contexts.
