The Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT) Philippines has appealed to the Department of Education (DepEd) to facilitate the immediate release of the Productivity Enhancement Incentive (PEI) and the Service Recognition Incentive (SRI) to all eligible personnel of the Department and its attached agencies, preferably within the current holiday season.
In a letter addressed to Education Secretary Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara, ACT emphasized that the timely release of these long-awaited incentives would provide much-needed financial relief and morale support to teachers and education workers as they celebrate Christmas and prepare for the coming year. The group underscored that educators continue to face economic pressures amid rising costs of living, making the prompt disbursement of incentives especially significant during the holiday period.
ACT noted that both the PEI and SRI are long-established benefits intended to recognize the productivity, dedication, and service of government employees, including those in the education sector. Delays in their release, the group said, undermine the purpose of these incentives and add to the financial strain experienced by teachers and non-teaching personnel.
Beyond the immediate release of funds, ACT also called on the DepEd to promptly issue clear guidelines and implementation mechanisms governing the distribution of the incentives. According to the group, the absence or late issuance of such guidelines often results in confusion, uneven implementation, and further delays at the regional and school levels.
ACT stressed that transparent, orderly, and timely processes are essential to ensure that all qualified personnel receive their benefits without discrimination or unnecessary administrative hurdles. The organization reiterated its appeal for the DepEd leadership to prioritize the welfare of teachers and education workers, particularly during the holiday season, when financial support can have a direct and meaningful impact on their well-being.
As of this writing, DepEd has yet to issue an official response to ACT’s appeal.
