As schools across the country prepare for the opening of classes for School Year 2026–2027, classroom orientation programs are becoming an important activity to help learners and parents understand the expectations, policies, and changes under the new Three-Term School Calendar of the Department of Education (DepEd). A well-prepared classroom orientation presentation can help establish strong communication between teachers, learners, and parents right from the beginning of the school year.
The presentation introduces parents and learners to the structure of the new academic calendar, which is now divided into three terms consisting of the Opening Block, Instructional Block, and End-of-Term Block. During the Opening Block, learners are gradually introduced to classroom routines, school policies, socio-emotional activities, and readiness tasks designed to help them adjust smoothly to school life. The presentation also explains the purpose of the Instructional Block, where regular teaching and learning activities happen, as well as the End-of-Term Block, where assessments, remediation, and recognition activities are conducted.
Another important part of the classroom orientation presentation is the discussion of classroom rules, attendance policies, school supplies, and learner responsibilities. Parents are reminded about the importance of regular attendance, proper communication with teachers, and active involvement in their child’s education. For Kindergarten to Grade 3, descriptive grading will be used instead of numerical grades, while Grades 4 to 12 will continue using numerical grades with qualitative descriptors.
