The Lower Kuskokwim School District (LKSD) is seeking passionate and dedicated Elementary Teachers to join our schools in rural Alaska. LKSD is the largest rural school district in Alaska, serving approximately 4,000 Yup’ik students across 27 schools with a team of around 350 teachers.

Located across the Kuskokwim River and Bering Coast in southwest Alaska, our district offers a unique opportunity to teach in a culturally rich, community-centered environment while making a meaningful impact in students’ lives.

Teaching Assignment

Subject Area: Education
Grade Levels: Preschool, Kindergarten, Grades 1–6

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver effective elementary instruction in a supportive learning environment
• Foster student growth through culturally responsive teaching practices
• Work collaboratively with staff, families, and local communities
• Support bilingual and inclusive education goals
• Participate in professional development and district training programs

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required
• Valid Alaska Teaching Certification or ability to obtain one
• Student teaching or equivalent required for Alaska certification
• Basic competency exam required for Alaska certification
• Ability to live and work in a cross-cultural, rural Alaskan environment
• Open to Certified Teachers and University Graduates
• No prior teaching experience required
• Relocation to Alaska is required
