The ACT Teachers Partylist, together with the Makabayan Bloc, has reaffirmed its commitment to securing a decent and living wage for all teachers in the Philippines. As part of this campaign, the group has filed three landmark bills that aim to establish a ₱50,000 entry-level monthly salary across all levels of the education sector.
Three Landmark Bills Filed
The proposed measures cover teachers in public schools, private institutions, and higher education:
📄 House Bill 203 – For Public School Teachers
This bill seeks to raise the entry-level salary of public school teachers to ₱50,000, addressing long-standing concerns over low compensation. The group emphasized that educators, as frontliners in nation-building, deserve fair and competitive pay.
📄 House Bill 8968 – For Private School Teachers
The proposal aims to end wage disparities in the private education sector, ensuring that licensed teachers in private schools receive no less than ₱50,000 monthly salary. It also calls for aligning private school teachers’ pay with their public school counterparts.
📄 House Bill 8969 – For Higher Education (SUCs and LUCs)
This measure covers instructors and professors in State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) and Local Universities and Colleges (LUCs). It sets ₱50,000 as the minimum or “floor” salary, addressing concerns that many higher education faculty members are underpaid relative to their qualifications and expertise.
A Call for Fair Compensation
ACT Teachers Partylist stressed that the current salary levels of educators across sectors are insufficient to meet the rising cost of living. By pushing for a standardized ₱50,000 entry-level pay, the group aims to uplift the economic conditions of teachers and recognize their critical role in shaping the country’s future.
Continuing the Fight
The group vowed to continue its legislative and advocacy efforts until meaningful salary reforms are enacted. According to ACT Teachers Partylist and its allies, ensuring fair compensation for teachers is not just a labor issue—it is a necessary investment in the quality of education and national development.
