Health Break for Teachers: Legit or Not?

As public school teachers across the country continue to call for a nationwide Health Break on October 27–30, 2025, a recent Facebook post by the Alliance of Concerned Teachers – NCR Union (ACT NCR) has sparked widespread discussion online. The post claims that the Schools Division Office (SDO) of Dagupan City has already declared a Health Break for teachers within its division. 

The post quickly gained traction, drawing hundreds of positive reactions and supportive comments from teachers and education advocates nationwide. Many educators expressed admiration for the Dagupan Division’s initiative and urged their own local DepEd offices to follow suit, calling for similar declarations in their respective regions.

Verification Still Pending

However, as of this writing, no official memorandum or issuance from the Schools Division Office of Dagupan City or the Department of Education (DepEd) has been released publicly to confirm the authenticity of the claim.

Official declarations typically come in the form of a Division or Regional Memorandum, which must be signed and circulated through formal DepEd channels before implementation.

Without such documentation, the announcement remains unverified, and school divisions across the country continue to operate under normal schedules until further notice.

Education officials and teachers are advised to await an official memo before making any work or class arrangements in relation to the proposed health break.

Calls for Wellness Amid Mounting Challenges

Teachers have long been appealing for periodic health or academic breaks, citing fatigue from administrative workloads, class management, and continuing adjustments in the post-pandemic learning setup.

The Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT) and its regional chapters have repeatedly lobbied for institutionalized wellness breaks, saying they are vital for maintaining educators’ mental and physical health.
