June 30, 2025 — There are key updates from this morning’s dialogue between the ACT Teachers Party-list, ACT-Philippines, and Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Sonny Angara held at the DepEd Central Office.
DepEd Restores One-Hour Class Periods to Ease Teachers’ Workload
The DepEd confirmed that class periods will be reverted to one hour per session as a measure to help ease the workload and teaching burden of teachers.
This adjustment is expected to standardize the duration of classes across grade levels and reduce the excessive preparation and documentation requirements that longer or irregular class periods have previously imposed on teachers.
Teacher groups welcomed this decision, viewing it as a practical step toward alleviating daily classroom pressures. However, they also highlighted the need for close monitoring to ensure that the implementation does not compromise instructional quality or overload the class schedules.
