June 30, 2025 — There are key updates from this morning’s dialogue between the ACT Teachers Party-list, ACT-Philippines, and Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Sonny Angara held at the DepEd Central Office.
FEWER & FLEXIBLE CLASSROOM OBSERVATIONS
The DepEd Central Office announced its willingness to reduce the required number of classroom observations to just one and to allow this to be conducted in a more flexible manner, no longer limited strictly to actual demonstration teaching.
This means teachers may soon have more options on how their performance can be observed and assessed, which could include alternative forms beyond the traditional in-person demonstration classes. This move aims to ease teachers’ workloads and lessen the stress often associated with rigid observation protocols.
Teacher groups expressed cautious optimism about this development, underscoring that meaningful performance evaluation should not come at the expense of teacher well-being.
