A call to include COVID-19 lessons to the K-12 curriculum

A group of teachers made an appeal to the Department of Education to include lessons that would enable our young citizens (students) to be more responsible in responding to the current pandemic in our country.

The Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT) said that the current K-12 curriculum must contain lessons that would educate our learners about the global pandemic that we are currently experiencing and how they can safely respond to it.

"Where is COVID-19 education in DepEd’s modified curriculum? Do the MELCs empower children to be active and productive members of our communities? Will it help our students process and aptly respond to events around them?" said ACT Secretary-General Raymond Basilio.

Basilio stressed that "education must reflect the world we live in and is a promising weapon to allow all of us to surmount these crises."

"More than ever, we need an education that is responsive to the capacities and needs of our people," he added.
