WALANG PASOK: Class Suspensions on Thursday, November 5, Due to High Heat Index

Several schools in Iloilo City and Roxas City have announced the suspension of face-to-face classes on Thursday, November 5, 2026, as precautionary measures against extreme heat conditions.

The class suspensions aim to protect learners, teachers, and school personnel from possible heat-related illnesses amid elevated heat index levels in parts of Western Visayas.

LIST OF SCHOOLS WITH CLASS SUSPENSIONS

ILOILO CITY, ILOILO

Tiu Cho Teg – Ana Ros Foundation Integrated Farm School — Suspension of face-to-face classes and all academic activities.
Jalandoni Memorial National High School — Suspension of face-to-face classes.

ROXAS CITY, CAPIZ

DepEd Guidelines on Extreme Heat

The suspensions come amid the implementation of DepEd Memorandum No. 064, s. 2026, which establishes precautionary measures to protect learners and school personnel during extreme heat associated with the anticipated Super El Niño.

Under DepEd's 4H Heat Action Framework, face-to-face classes are suspended when the classroom heat index reaches the HINGA level (33°C–41°C), with lighter home-based learning activities permitted.

At the HINTO level (42°C and above), both face-to-face classes and home-based academic activities are suspended to prioritize learners' health and safety.

PAGASA Heat Index Advisory

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has reported dangerous heat index levels in parts of Iloilo, including Iloilo City and Dumangas, where readings have reached 42°C or higher.

Exposure to extreme heat may result in heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and potentially life-threatening heat stroke.

Students, parents, and teachers are advised to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, and monitor official announcements from their respective schools and local government units.

IMPORTANT: The suspensions listed above apply only to the identified educational institutions and do not indicate a province-wide or city-wide class suspension. Other schools may issue separate announcements depending on their local conditions.

This article will be updated as additional official class suspension announcements become available.
