DepEd Set to Provide More Than 250,000 Laptops to Public School Teachers

The Department of Education (DepEd) is moving to provide more than 250,000 laptops to public school teachers as part of its continuing efforts to strengthen digital learning and improve access to technology in public schools.

The planned rollout forms part of DepEd’s broader computerization and digitalization initiatives, which aim to equip teachers with devices that can support lesson preparation, classroom instruction, access to digital learning resources, and other school-related tasks.

Available procurement records indicate that the laptops are covered by multiple procurement batches and funding sources under the DepEd Computerization Program and related continuing funds.

While the combined procurement quantities exceed 250,000 units, it is important to note that these figures refer to laptops covered by procurement initiatives and should not yet be interpreted to mean that all devices have already been delivered to individual teachers nationwide.

Government procurement normally undergoes several stages, including bidding, contract awarding, issuance of notices to proceed, delivery, inspection, acceptance, and eventual distribution to schools and intended recipients.

Nearly 880,000 Voice Amplifiers for Teachers

The laptop initiative comes alongside DepEd’s rollout of 879,533 lapel voice amplifiers for classroom instruction.

Official procurement documents show that the voice amplifiers were allocated for teaching personnel nationwide, with an approved budget of more than ₱422 million.

The devices are intended to help teachers communicate more effectively during classroom instruction by making their voices easier for learners to hear, especially in larger or noisier classrooms. Voice amplification may also reduce the need for teachers to continuously raise their voices while teaching.

Distribution activities involving the devices have already been documented in some Schools Division Offices. However, available information should not automatically be taken as confirmation that all 879,533 units have already been physically distributed to teachers across the country.

Smart TVs, Learning Carts and Other Digital Equipment

DepEd’s digitalization program extends beyond laptops and voice amplifiers.

The agency’s plans also include Smart TV packages, e-learning or learning carts, laptops for non-teaching personnel, and other information and communications technology equipment intended to improve access to digital resources in public schools.

Government budget presentations for 2026 have previously identified plans for approximately 22,000 Smart TV packages and around 1,000 e-learning cart packages.

These initiatives are designed to help schools make greater use of technology in classroom instruction and provide both teachers and learners with improved access to digital educational materials.

Expanding Internet Connectivity

Improving internet access also remains an important part of the government’s education digitalization efforts.

For 2026, internet service renewals have been identified for 5,918 last-mile schools, while DepEd continues to work with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) on initiatives aimed at expanding connectivity in public schools.

Improved internet access can support the use of digital learning materials, online education platforms, school information systems, teacher resources, and other technology-based services.

Supporting Teachers Through Technology

The procurement of more than 250,000 teacher laptops represents a significant investment in strengthening the technological capacity of the public school system.

Together with voice amplifiers, Smart TVs, learning carts, improved internet connectivity, and other ICT equipment, the initiative reflects DepEd’s continuing push toward a more digitally equipped basic education system.

Teachers and the public, however, are advised to distinguish between procurement, allocation, delivery, and actual distribution.

A device included in a procurement project does not necessarily mean that it has already been delivered to its intended recipient. Actual availability in schools will depend on the completion of procurement procedures, supplier delivery schedules, inspection and acceptance, and final allocation and distribution.

For now, available government and DepEd records support the statement that the Department is pursuing initiatives involving more than 250,000 laptops intended for public school teachers, alongside other major investments in digital equipment and school connectivity.

Further official announcements from DepEd are expected to provide more specific information regarding suppliers, delivery schedules, allocations, and the actual distribution of the devices.
