DepEd: Lapels Now, Laptops Next | Official Statement

The Department of Education (DepEd) has clarified that the distribution of voice amplifiers and the procurement of laptops for public school teachers are two separate initiatives, assuring educators that the long-awaited teacher laptops are still on the way.

In an official statement, DepEd explained that the voice amplifiers were released ahead of the laptops because the devices were already available to provide immediate classroom support to nearly 880,000 teachers nationwide.

Meanwhile, the procurement of more than 250,000 teacher laptops remains underway. According to the department, additional time is needed to ensure that the devices meet the required standards for performance, durability, battery life, warranty coverage, and value for money.

DepEd said the procurement process for the laptops is already nearing completion.

Voice Amplifiers Procured at Lower Prices

The department also addressed concerns regarding the cost of the voice amplifiers. Through competitive bidding, DepEd said the price was reduced from the approved ceiling of ₱480.76 per unit to approximately ₱300 to ₱370, depending on the delivery location.

Each unit also comes with a one-year warranty.

The voice amplifiers are intended to help teachers communicate more clearly inside classrooms, particularly those handling large classes or experiencing vocal strain from prolonged teaching.

DepEd Assures Teachers of Laptop Distribution

DepEd emphasized that teachers will receive both forms of classroom support promised by the administration of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.—voice amplifiers for immediate use and quality laptops to support lesson preparation, digital instruction, assessment, reporting, and other school-related tasks.

“Voice amplifiers ngayon, de-kalidad na teacher laptops na ang kasunod,” the department said.

While no exact distribution date was provided in the statement, DepEd’s announcement indicates that the laptop procurement is already in its final stages. Further guidelines on the allocation, delivery, and distribution of the devices are expected once the procurement process is completed.
