Malacañang Suspends Work in Executive Branch for National Family Week

MANILA, Philippines — Malacañang announced on Saturday that work in government offices under the executive branch will be suspended starting 1:00 PM on Monday, September 22, 2025, in observance of “Kainang Pamilya Mahalaga” Day.

The directive was issued through Memorandum Circular No. 96, signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, in support of the 33rd National Family Week celebration.

“The suspension of work in other branches of government, independent commissions or bodies, and private sector is also encouraged, so as to afford all Filipino families the full opportunity to celebrate the 33rd National Family Week,” the memorandum read.

National Family Week Tradition

National Family Week is an annual celebration that emphasizes the importance of strengthening Filipino families as the foundation of society. “Kainang Pamilya Mahalaga” Day, which literally translates to “Family Mealtime Matters,” highlights the value of families sharing meals together as a way to nurture stronger bonds and promote unity.

Scope of Suspension

The memorandum covers only the executive branch, though Malacañang encouraged the legislative and judiciary branches, constitutional commissions, independent bodies, and private institutions to observe the suspension as well, giving workers time to be with their families.

Broader Context

Since its establishment, National Family Week has been marked by activities promoting family welfare, community solidarity, and policies that safeguard the rights and stability of Filipino households. This year marks its 33rd observance, underscoring the government’s sustained commitment to family-centered initiatives.
