Senator Bam Aquino Pushes for ₱10,000 Salary Hike for Public School Teachers Under the “Angat Sweldo Para sa Guro Act”

MANILA, Philippines — Senator Bam Aquino has renewed his call for the swift passage of the “Angat Sweldo Para sa Guro Act,” a proposed measure that seeks to increase the starting salary of all public school teachers by ₱10,000 per month.

In a post on his official Facebook page, Senator Aquino urged the public to support the bill, emphasizing its crucial impact on the education sector and the nation at large.
“Suportahan ang ₱10,000 dagdag na buwanang sahod para sa lahat ng public school teachers at kwalipikadong non-teaching personnel. Angat Sweldo Para sa Guro Act: para sa edukasyon, para sa mga guro, para sa kabataan, para sa bayan,” Aquino said.
Under the proposed measure, the starting monthly pay of public school teachers will be increased by ₱10,000. Qualified non-teaching personnel in public schools are also set to benefit from the salary adjustment. Senator Aquino believes that this will not only improve the lives of teachers and their families but also enhance the overall quality of education in the country.

“Our teachers are at the frontlines of nation-building. By investing in them, we’re investing in the future of our children and our country,” Aquino said in previous interviews.

The senator has long championed initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of educators, recognizing their sacrifices and the heavy workload they carry, especially amid the challenges of remote and blended learning.

Several teachers’ groups have already expressed support for the measure, citing that the current salaries are often insufficient to meet the rising cost of living. Many hope that the proposed increase will finally address the longstanding issue of low compensation for educators.

The bill is expected to be tackled in the coming sessions of Congress. Aquino and his allies are optimistic that with enough public backing, the measure will gain the necessary momentum for approval.

As the country continues to grapple with learning gaps exacerbated by the pandemic, Senator Aquino emphasized that empowering teachers through adequate compensation is a critical step towards rebuilding and strengthening the Philippine education system.
