The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has urged all local government units (LGUs) to remain on high alert as heavy rains are expected to continue until early next week due to the enhanced Southwest Monsoon, Tropical Depression ‘Dante,’ and a developing low-pressure area.
“Masama pa rin ang panahon hanggang Lunes. May paparating pa tayong bagyo,” said DILG Secretary Jonvic Remulla in a statement posted on the official DILG Philippines Facebook page and reiterated in a media interview on Wednesday.
Remulla emphasized that LGUs have already been reminded of their key responsibilities, including preemptive evacuations and timely risk communication, especially in hazard-prone communities. The DILG is closely monitoring the situation in western provinces, particularly from Negros Island to Ilocos Sur.
He also noted that the Office of Civil Defense, as the implementing arm of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), is working in close coordination with local authorities to ensure proactive response and disaster preparedness.
The DILG also assured the public that the Emergency 911 hotline remains fully operational and ready to respond to urgent concerns from affected areas.
Residents in vulnerable zones are strongly advised to stay updated through official channels, cooperate with local authorities, and prepare for possible evacuation if necessary.
