DepEd Accelerates Laptop Delivery Through Early Procurement

The Department of Education (DepEd) has reported significant strides in expediting the delivery of laptops and other ICT equipment, thanks to the implementation of the Early Procurement Activity (EPA) — a strategy aimed at addressing long-standing delays in the DepEd Computerization Program (DCP).

DepEd officials emphasized that this initiative aligns with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive to modernize and strengthen digital learning infrastructure in public schools.

In a statement on Friday, DepEd Zambales Schools Division Superintendent William Roderick Fallorin lauded Education Secretary Sonny Angara for prioritizing early procurement measures. “If you recall, our laptops under the DCP packages used to arrive very late. By the time these reached the schools, many were no longer fully functional, or could only be used for a short period,” Fallorin said, recalling previous situations where equipment languished in warehouses, nearly exhausting their two-year shelf-life before reaching end users.

Under the improved system, the department reported that 79 percent of the funds earmarked for the 2025 DCP have already been awarded to suppliers. This early awarding is expected to ensure more timely delivery and deployment of technology resources to schools.

To date, DepEd has delivered 9,466 laptops out of the 33,539 units procured for teaching personnel. Meanwhile, 3,255 of the 5,360 laptops intended for non-teaching staff have also been distributed. The department is likewise advancing in the deployment of other digital learning tools, having delivered 6,634 out of 25,949 procured Smart TV packages equipped with external drives.

The accelerated distribution of ICT packages is seen as crucial in boosting the capabilities of both teachers and administrative staff, ultimately enhancing the quality of education in the country. DepEd officials assured continued monitoring of the deliveries to prevent past issues of delayed or underutilized equipment from recurring.

This latest development underscores DepEd’s renewed commitment to ensuring that vital learning technologies promptly reach the schools that need them most, paving the way for a more digitally empowered education sector.
