The Department of Education (DepEd) is hopeful once again about receiving the Performance-Based Bonus (PBB) for 2023, following a favorable initial response from the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) to its appeal for reconsideration.
Previously declared ineligible for the PBB due to unmet performance indicators, DepEd filed an appeal spearheaded by Education Secretary Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara. The department submitted justifications explaining the circumstances behind the missed targets. These were reviewed by the DBM’s Budget and Management Bureau, which subsequently issued a recommendation in DepEd’s favor, acknowledging that the justifications were valid and acceptable.
The matter now lies in the hands of the Technical Working Group under Executive Order No. 61, chaired by the DBM. This body holds the authority to make the final determination on DepEd’s eligibility based on BMBF’s recommendation. A positive ruling from the TWG would mean that DepEd personnel across the country will finally receive the PBB for 2023.
The Performance-Based Bonus program is a government-wide initiative that incentivizes excellence and improved service delivery by rewarding employees of agencies that achieve their set targets.
