A request to move the opening of classes (SY 2022-2023) to early October to give teachers enough rest

A group of teachers urged Vice President and DepEd Secretary Sara Duterte to move the opening of classes to mid-September or early October for the School Year 2022-2023 to provide enough rest for the public school teachers.

The Teachers' Dignity Coalition (TDC) said in a statement that this request to move the opening of classes is for the public school teachers to have their well-deserved rest and for them to recharge for another school year ahead of them.

TDC National Chairman, Benjo Basas, stressed that teachers are entitled to two months' leave intended to give them sufficient time to rest.

The former DepEd administration has made a tentative schedule for the opening of classes for the next school year which would be on August 22, 2022. But, TDC hopes that the DepEd under the new leadership will take into consideration their request before making its final announcement for the official school calendar for SY 2022-2023.
