The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) has announced on its official Facebook page the launch of an app-based driver’s license renewal system through the eGovPH app. The initiative aims to make the renewal process faster, more transparent, and more convenient for motorists across the country.
Under the new system, license renewal can now be done 100% online—including the medical exam, required seminar, payment, and access to the digital driver’s license. According to the DICT, this removes the need for long queues, eliminates the role of “fixers,” and ends the familiar “come back tomorrow” experience that many citizens have faced in the past.
For those who still need a physical card, the system offers the option of delivery or pickup, further reducing the need to visit government offices. The eGovPH app also allows users to access a digital version of their license directly on their smartphones.
In its announcement, the DICT emphasized the core message of the program: “Wala nang pila. Wala nang fixer. License renewal, nasa app na lang.” This move is part of the government’s broader digitalization drive to improve efficiency, transparency, and public service delivery.
For many Filipinos, this development shows how technology can meaningfully improve everyday transactions with the government—making services faster, cleaner, and more organized. This is the kind of public service citizens expect and deserve.
