October 13, 2025 — The Department of Education (DepEd) announced that preventive class suspensions are part of the agency’s measures to ensure the safety of learners, teachers, and school personnel while carrying out disaster preparedness activities.
DepEd said that Regional Offices and Schools Division Offices may implement preventive suspensions to conduct structural inspections and other safety-related activities to make sure that schools are prepared in case of strong earthquakes or other calamities. These measures also serve to prevent the spread of illnesses and maintain a healthy school environment.
During periods of preventive suspension, alternative learning modalities are implemented, such as modular or online learning, to ensure that education continues even without face-to-face classes. The agency emphasized that safety remains the top priority while learning continues.
DepEd also called for the cooperation of parents, teachers, and local government units (LGUs) to ensure that schools remain safe and disaster-ready.
“The safety of our learners and teachers remains our foremost concern,” the agency stated. “Preventive suspension is not a waste of time—it is a proactive measure to ensure that our schools are safe and prepared.”
