Ideal Classroom-Student Ratios
DepEd outlined the following ratios as the benchmark for ensuring effective teaching and quality learning:
-
Key Stage 1 (Kindergarten to Grade 3): 1:25
-
Key Stage 2 (Grades 4 to 6): 1:30–25
-
Key Stage 3 (Grades 7 to 10): 1:40–45
-
Key Stage 4 (Grades 11 to 12): 1:25
These ratios are intended to strike a balance between resource allocation and providing a conducive learning environment.
Addressing Classroom Shortages
During the briefing, it was emphasized that the shortage of classrooms continues to be one of the most pressing issues in the education sector. Adequate facilities are critical in ensuring that students can learn in an environment that is safe, comfortable, and supportive of academic growth.
“Alam natin na ang maayos at sapat na pasilidad ay mahalaga para sa dekalidad na edukasyon. Sapagkat kung conducive ang classrooms, conducive din ang learning para sa ating mga estudyante,” the discussion highlighted.
Looking Forward
The DepEd reaffirmed its commitment to addressing these challenges by working closely with stakeholders and ensuring that future budget allocations prioritize classroom construction, facility improvements, and better student-teacher ratios. Achieving these targets will help lay the foundation for a more inclusive and effective education system.
