Key Feature: ₱15,000 Salary Hike
The proposed increase will be given in three annual tranches:
-
₱6,000 in the first year
-
₱5,000 in the second year
-
₱4,000 in the third year
This hike is on top of existing raises under the Salary Standardization Law and aims to directly address the long-standing issue of low compensation for educators.
Why It Matters
Public school teachers and employees often struggle to make ends meet, with many taking on side jobs or seeking work abroad. The proposed law responds to these challenges by:
-
Alleviating financial strain amid rising living costs
-
Encouraging teacher retention and reducing the need for moonlighting
-
Fulfilling the constitutional mandate to provide educators with “adequate remuneration and job satisfaction”
Next Steps
If passed, the increases will take effect starting January 1 of the year after enactment, funded through the General Appropriations Act. The DBM, in consultation with the DepEd and teachers’ groups, will release implementing guidelines.
