DepEd Condemns Nueva Ecija School Shooting That Left Two Students Critical

Sta. Rosa, Nueva Ecija — The Department of Education (DepEd) on Friday morning denounced a classroom shooting at Santa Rosa Integrated School that left two students in critical condition, vowing swift action to hold those responsible accountable.

“Schools must always remain a safe and secure place for learners, teachers, and personnel. Any act of violence within or near school grounds is unacceptable and will not be tolerated,” DepEd said in a statement.

The shooting occurred on Thursday, August 7, when an 18-year-old male student from another school reportedly entered the campus, shot a 15-year-old Grade 8 female student, and then turned the gun on himself. Authorities said the two had recently ended a romantic relationship.

DepEd confirmed that the Schools Division Office of Nueva Ecija was working closely with local authorities and law enforcement to investigate the incident.

The agency said it was providing psychosocial support and stress debriefing to students and staff affected by the attack, alongside strengthening security measures and restoring normalcy in the school and surrounding areas.

“We likewise support the ongoing efforts to provide assistance to the families of the victims,” DepEd added.
